2007 Official Contest Rules

Age: Contestants must be at least 16 years of age by the end of the registration period to participate in this year’s competition.

Auditions: Contestants must complete the registration phase before attending the A Cappella Audition. Auditions will be performed in front of a panel of judges. No background music is allowed. Contestants must sing a song of their choice with no music accompaniment. Judges will score contestants based on two categories: (Category 1: Tone, Pitch, Timing) & (Category 2: Personality, Stage Presence, Body Language) Judges scoring is final and Top 20 contestants will be revealed at a later date.

Performance/Attendance: Contestants must be willing, available and able to perform and/or attend all scheduled functions of this year’s competition. Failure to do so could result in immediate ejection of this year’s competition. See Timeline of Events form for exact dates. This is a singing contest: no musical instruments or stage props (other than those provided by Kokomo Idol staff) are allowed during performance. Contestants agree to perform within the designated areas of each performance.

Behavior: Contestants agree to behave in a manner that is appropriate for public display and understand that failure to do so could result in immediate ejection of this year’s competition.

Release & Consent: Contestants agree to have any and all recordings used during but not limited to the live performances, auditions or studio recordings, played on air, television or recorded to CD for distribution at the discretion of Z92.5, GMAC Mortgage LLC and/or The Haynes Apperson Festival.

Prizes: Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st Place Winner will receive $350 plus a Kokomo Idol Winner Trophy. Runner-Up will receive $150 and a Kokomo Idol Trophy. The remaining Top 8 contestants will receive a Kokomo Idol Plaque. 

Liability: Z92.5, GMAC Mortgage LLC and The Haynes Apperson Festival take no responsibility for bodily injury or accidents that may occur during any of the events in connection with Kokomo Idol. Contestants waive their right to hold the afore mentioned entities responsible and agree to participate at their own risk.

Music: Contestants may perform songs of their choice for the audition and during the contest as long as they are approved for content by Z92.5. No two contestants may perform the same song during the same phase of the competition. Song choice will be reserved by contestants on a first come, first serve basis. Contestants agree to provide Z92.5 with “lyric-free” music CD’s to be used for studio recordings and/or live performances. Music will not be provided by Z92.5 or GMAC Mortgage for this year’s competition.

IMPORTANT: In order for the sound crew, judges panel and Kokomo Idol staff to prepare for the live events, song choices need to be determined by certain deadlines and “lyric-free” music CD’s need to be provided to Z92.5 by the contestants. Please, make your decisions wisely. Once your CD has been provided to Z92.5, decisions are final and no changes are allowed.

CD Requirements: Music must be provided on a "lyric-free" CD. CD’s must be legibly marked with contestant’s name. CD’s may be picked up at the Z92.5 studio by contestants after contest is over, as early as July 2nd. MP3 and other compressed audio formats are not acceptable. Song selection cannot violate any federal, state or other applicable law regarding copyright and usage laws. Original recordings may be used if a “lyric-free” CD can be provided.

CD Turn In Dates:

Top 20 Contestants: Deadline: Friday, June 8th You must decide on one song you will perform during the Top 20 performance. A Lyric-Free Music CD must be provided to Z92.5 at time of scheduled studio recording. Music selection must be approved by Z92.5 at time of studio recording registration. The song you record in the studio will be the same song you perform live during the Top 20 performance. Once you have reserved your song selection, you may not request changes, no exceptions. Please turn in TOP 20 CD Form with your “lyric-free” music CD.

Final 8 Contestants: Deadline: Monday, June 25th You must decide on one song you will perform during the Final 8 performance and two songs you will sing during the Final 2 Showdown if you are selected to perform at this stage of the competition. In addition, the winner will sing one final song that can be different or the same as an earlier song performed. A total of four songs must be chosen at this phase. Once you have reserved your song selections, you may not request changes, no exceptions. Please turn in FINAL 8 CD Form with your “lyric-free” music CD.

All contestants must sign the "Contest Rules Addendum" and "Authorization Form" prior to individual auditions.
